Coping With The High Cost Of Cancer

Coping With The High Cost Of Cancer

Posted on: June 18th, 2016 by alf_admin No Comments

We all know that it costs big money to develop advancements in the treatment of cancer, from the development of new drugs and treatments, to research and even improvements in diagnosis.  In fact, cancer costs are projected to reach at least $158 billion annually by 2020[1]. But what most people don’t factor in is the high cost of daily expenses that contribute to these astronomical expenses.  If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer, you already know that co-payments, uncovered prescriptions, travel expenses to appointments and lost income due to treatment can really add up.

Of course, you can always seek financial help through a variety of resources, including:

  •  Nonprofit organization
  • Disability groups, State programs
  •  Medicaid
  •  Friends and Family

In addition to reaching out to these resources, it’s important to ask for help from your Co-Survivors. Tell friends, family, pharmacists and disability groups that you need help.  Ask them to make a few calls for you, to find out what resources are available in your situation.  Ask them to help prepare applications for support or assistance.  Let them know you need financial assistance. Most people WANT to help a cancer patient as they face the battle, but they don’t know how they can.  It’s important to tell your circle of family, friends, colleagues, church members and other that you need their support.

Stethoscope and Money

Patients are often hesitant to bring up concerns about the costs of their care with healthcare providers and might worry their level of care could be compromised.  However, these conversations happen between doctors and patients every day.  It’s important to actually have these discussions at the beginning of treatment, so your healthcare provider can provide health care navigators or social workers within their medical institution to assist you. They can also share information on how former patients were able to find help. Don’t be afraid to reach out because everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and this shared knowledge base brings a wealth of opportunities to you.

If you’re fighting cancer, you shouldn’t have to make additional sacrifices like skipping necessary medications, or cutting food and clothing expenses. If you or a loved one are dealing with increasingly stressful out-of-pocket expenses, there are options for you.  In fact, more and more people are choosing to convert a life insurance policy into much-needed financial assistance during a battle with cancer.  Companies like American Life Fund have solutions that could help ease the financial stress of cancer. To find out more, give us a call to see how we can help in your time of need.

American Life Fund Sponsors Annual ACCF Feather Run 5K!

Posted on: September 12th, 2014 by alf_admin No Comments

American Life Fund teamed up with the Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation once again! We sponsored the Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation Feather Run 5k Run/Walk on November 1st, 2014.

This event benefits the Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF), a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency financial assistance to adult cancer patients and survivors in Metro Atlanta, as well as to supporting cancer-related education and research. Each year, their grants help hundreds of cancer patients and their families by easing the financial burden of cancer.

This event marks the second sponsorship that American Life Fund has had the pleasure of doing for the Atlanta Cancer Care Foundation. In 2013, American Life Fund sponsored the ACCF Golf Scramble, which also helped raise money for the organization. It was a wonderful success!

American Life Fund Participates in PurpleStride 5K for Pancreatic Cancer

Posted on: November 13th, 2013 by alf_admin No Comments

On Saturday, November 9th, 2013, American Life Fund had the pleasure of being a Silver Sponsor for the PurpleStride Atlanta 5k run/walk at Centennial Olympic Park. This event is held by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Foundation yearly in hopes of fighting Pancreatic Cancer.  All proceeds raised go towards pancreatic research, grants, awareness and survivors. In 2012, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Foundation awarded more than $3.4 million in research grants alone[1]! They have also raised millions through their successful PurpleStride fundraisers nationwide.

Pancreatic cancer is a horrible disease that needs a cure. Survival rates for pancreatic cancer have remained in the single digits for more than 40 years[1]. Currently, only 6% of individuals with pancreatic cancer live more than 5 years. For this reason, American Life Fund wanted help show their support in hopes of helping the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Foundation reach their goal of doubling the survival rate by 2020.

Breast Cancer Support
Receiving a Check

American Life Fund offers financial assistance to individuals with late stage cancer that are looking to sell their existing life insurance policy for immediate financial relief. Many of our clients have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer so our involvement in the 2013 PurpleStride Atlanta was dedicated to each one of them.

As a Silver Sponsor, American Life Fund gave away over a thousand free purple “SWAG BAGS” filled with water bottles, purple flashing bracelets, pens, sunglasses, coffee mugs and note pads. It was truly amazing seeing the smiles on all the participant’s faces who received our items. We were honored and humbled to be a part of such an incredible event and successful fundraiser. Over $264,000 dollars were raised from the PurpleStride Atlanta event. A big thank you to the pancreatic community for letting ALF participate in such an unforgettable day!
